Staff, students and parents celebrated their terrific scores on last spring’s statewide tests with a “600 Rally” honoring students who scored the perfect 600 on the test, students who jumped “bands” on the test last year over the year previous and students who made significant gains.
The annual November achievement rally included a promised reward to students who beat the school’s challenge for book sales at this year’s book fair. As the book fair’s theme was Egypt, student readers got to wrap Principal Gina Hall and Vice Principal Jana Brooks like Egyptian mummies. Principal Hall even got the head dress of an Egyptian Queen. (See photos.)
Rio seventh grade teacher/academic coach Jennifer Duren directed the rally which included collection of more 1,000 pairs of socks for the needy. (The numbers from each class were reported out Rio style, with students carrying numbers grouping together to reach the totals.)
District reps and trustee Kathy Garcia hung the medals on students who made the 600 scores in each class and students who improved enough to jump a score band jumped rope. There was also a performance from Rio’s upcoming musical “Oz” so make plans to see the production later this year. Congratulations Rio Calaveras for working hard every day and for this year’s achievement.
